The resolution for independence was among the most important accomplishments of the Second Continental Congress. These valiant patriots pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor in declaring their independence from Great Britain.
John Trumbull considered this painting to be the most important work of his life. He began this work in 1787 and finally finish in 1820. He used actual sittings with most of the signers and saught Jefferson's aid for accuracy.
