The Declaration of Independence, unframed document

Many countries define their starting date with a battle or a speech, but the birth of the American nation was marked by a document. On July 4, 1776, the 13 independent colonies joined in a common cause to declare their independence from Great Britain in writing.  In this document, Americans proclaimed the unalienable rights that belong to all people and the reasons for the separation from their mother country.  The Declaration of Independence has become the standard of freedom for the world.
